The Pennsylvania Consort was founded in 1990 as an outgrowth of the Bedford Springs Festival for the Performing Arts, which took place from 1982 to 1989. .
Today, the renamed Pennsylvania Consort sponsors a six-concert Guest Artist Series in the fall and spring each year, six free outdoor summer music concerts, a performance each December of Handel’s Messiah and educational programs in the schools. The all-volunteer organization keeps concert ticket prices low to encourage a wide audience, and relies on donations, advertising revenue, and grants to sustain its activities. The Pennsylvania Consort Society is a publicly supported 501(c)(3) Not-For-profit Corporation.
GUEST ARTIST SERIES
Our six-concert Guest Artist Series hosts artists who are not often heard in Bedford County. The series includes chamber music, choral and solo voice performers, folk and jazz, and solo instrumentalists. Our concerts often feature artists from cities like Pittsburgh, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and New York.
SUMMER MUSIC ON THE SQUARE
Families sit on the gazebo lawn to enjoy the popular free concerts on the town square. Six concerts are scheduled in June, July and August. No tickets required.
An all-volunteer community chorus, regional soloists and a chamber orchestra present this time-honored classic every December.
We also have an active educational program in the schools that features many of our visiting artists in concert.
The PA Consort brings outstanding musicians to Bedford, PA for year-round concerts and educational workshops.
